Hi everyone
I've already posted a couple of times, but since I've applied for membership,I think its time to introduce my self.
I'm a refugee from MW 2 , I haven't done much since till 6 months ago I became involved in MW 4 Mercs. I've had the pleasure of dropping more than a few times with CSG_Shrimp, probably why i'm here now. I hope you guys will start to become active soon. If I am accepted as a member I will do my best to put the word out that the ComStar Guard is still around. I call Queensland, Australia home and don't have much of a problem connecting to servers in the US with no noticeable lag. Well this is short and sweet, I look forward to getting to know you all soon.
Regards Hardway |

Hi Guys. Well the free release has come and gone and it is so quiet on the forum you can hear a pin drop, maybe you guys need a server up to let the mechwarrior community know the Comstar Guard is still around. I would be more than happy to help out in any way I can, there must be thousands of players finishing up the mission play looking for a group to join. Must be time for action, any takers .
Cheers all Hardway |

Hmmm you have a great point. I myself have not even downloaded it yet. :( But frankly it really is not ready for the masses yet and I can hold off a bit more. This was copied from Mekteks site -->
Maybe listening to somebody else's problems for a bit will cheer you up.
To paraphrase Helmuth von Moltke the Elder, No software release survives first contact with the user.
We were a bit unprepared at the beginning of the launch, our servers got pounded and we lost a router at our hosts facilities. Thanks to Limestone Networks' quick response, we were able to get the servers back online. With the server crash came some new measures put in place to compartmentalize our services so that if one service goes down, it doesn't take all of them with it. The server crash stopped MTX from working properly causing all sorts of errors.
So, we release an update to MTX that allows for offline installation of the .mtx files. This produced a problem that we didn't even know about until today. I'll get to that in a bit.
As if we didn't have enough problems, someone decided it would be a good idea to submit not only MTX, but AT1, and Mercs as viruses to Norton and McAfee, as well as MalwareBytes, who, without delay, added us to their lists of malware and viruses. We have reports from users that have contacted Norton, that it will take up to two weeks before they will review our software and deem it clean.
Not enough of someone else's suffering to brighten your day? Keep reading!
Thanks to a persistent forum user who wasn't using Norton or McAfee, yet experiencing data loss, we were able to determine that if you use MTX in offline mode or the MTX Extractor to install Mercs, AND you either install the patches in the wrong order, or to the wrong directory, or you attempt to re-apply a patch after it's been installed, when the software tries to clean up after itself, it may delete any folders in the directory where the .mtx files are saved.
What does this mean?
This means that if you shouldn't use the software until we get it fixed. If you are confident that you can follow the instructions I am about to give, you may, at your own risk, attempt to install the game before we release a safe way to do so.
On to the installation.
First thing you need to do is create a new folder and move the .mtx files into it. Only the .mtx files. If there are any folders in the directory where the .mtx files are placed, and you make a mistake, you will lose those folders.
Next, if you have the MTX Extractor, click the browse button and locate the folder where you moved the .mtx files.
This is important. These files must be installed in the proper order or you will have problems.
Select the file named mechwarrior4mercenaries.all.to.51.03.01.0017.mtx then click open. A window will pop up asking what your MTX games path is. This is normally Program Filesmektek.net. Browse to whatever you chose as your MTX games path and click save.
Click Start and the extraction and installation will begin. This is a 1.7 gig file, be patient, this may take a few minutes, so be patient. On my laptop it took a little over 5 minutes.
Repeat the process with the file named mechwarrior4mercenaries.51.03.01.0017.to.51.03.01.0018.mtx, and when that is complete, one more time with mechwarrior4mercenaries.51.03.01.0018.to.51.03.01.0020.mtx.
The proper order is very important.
We will be releasing an update soon that addresses certain dedicated server issues, this will likely be released as an executable, and soon, we should have an executable installer available for the whole game. If you can wait, we recommend that you do so, until we get MTX fixed or the executable installer is ready. |
MTX File Extract and Patch Utility

Edit: I am temporarily pulling the link to the extractor until we can investigate the claims of data loss.
Better safe than sorry at this point.
We've had 3 reports of this happening, so we're going to verify the safety of our software today and get this resolved ASAP.
We think this may have to do with Norton and other AV software deleting and quarantining entire folders. We believe some disgruntled users may have submitted reports to the various AV companies indicating that our software as well as Microsoft's software contains viruses or trojans. Those AV companies didn't do their due diligence in making sure the reports of viruses and trojans were on the level. We assure you there is no malicious software in anything MekTek releases, as the software and encryption used has changed very little, or not at all in the case of the encryption, in years, and these AV companies, such as Symantec, have never had reason to show us as a threat before.
Please stay tuned.

Important MTX Update:
For those of you having difficulty with our MTX client we are providing a MTX File Extract and Patch Utility.
This utility can be used to Extract and Patch your free Mechwarrior4 installation should you have difficulty with our MTX distribution client. This utility must be used to install patches in sequence therefore you should not patch out of order (example: .0017 then .0018 then .0020). For all new installs you must install the "all to .0017" file first.
This utility is accompanied with a Readme file which are encouraged to read.
You can also download the MTX files via your favorite torrent client if you wish to not use the beta MTX client:
Mechwarrior4: Mercenaries MTX Install File (version .0017)
Mechwarrior4: Mercenaries Patch (version .0018)
Mechwarrior4: Mercenaries Patch (version .0020)
Based upon all of the valuable input we have received, we are working hard to bring you an updated version of the MTX Client for patching purposes that we believe will work for everyone shortly. |

Free Release Update
Posted by WhiteFeather, Tuesday, 27 April 2010 18:24 Comments(0), Read all |
Since the Free Release was cleared by Microsoft last Wednesday, the MekTek staff have been working diligently to put together a patch to the current 3.1 release that removes the CD checks from the game. Along with this patch will be a number of bug fixes and an update to MTX which should help a number of common issues and speed up the whole process (namely hashing).
Currently MTX and the Free Release are being regression tested by our beta testers. As part of our QAQC process, our testers check and re-check every issue to help ensure as stable of a release as possible. We do not have an ETA on release at this time, but we will be releasing as soon as it is cleared for release status by our testers.
However, in order to satiate your desires for information, here are some of the bug fixes and updates you can expect:
MW4 Free Release (version .0020)
Privateer - Left Torso Damage Registers as Right Torso Damage - Fixed
Polar Tundra not installed properly - Fixed
Shadow Hawk not available in campaign - Fixed
Mech Descriptions for Useens are Missing from The Mech Lab - Fixed
Dragon is IS mech not Clan (as well as other miss labeled mechs) - Fixed
Unseens descriptions missing - Fixed
Map "MW3-LavaPit" asks for "Disk 2" - Fixed
If MW4 Fails to connect to the Master Server Online tell you to check the MS www.zone.com/Mech4 for server status - Fixed
Version Error says"...go to www.mechwarrior4.com" - Fixed
Clicking On Server Tab causes crash - Fixed
Software Delay Flag may be confusing - Fixed
Bot Limiter - New
SW Delay Flag Occurring Too Much - Fixed
Player Selected Skins - New
Unseens listed in hosted server restriction menu - Fixed
HD Resolutions Upgrade - New
MTX (version 1.0.1.11)
Automatic Updates - New
UPNP Port Forwarding for Mechwarrior4 - New
Torrent Hashing Protocol - Fixed
Ghosting on Exit from System Tray and File Menu - Fixed
Minimize to System Tray - Fixed
Multi-threading optimizations - Update
I also wanted to clear up some information on what the Free Release is and how the process will work. The Mechwarrior4: Mercenaries free release will be a patch that applies to the current MekPak 3.1 release. You will need to use MTX to download and install the 3.1 release. Remember, the 3.1 release is a complete version of the game; you do not need to install the game from the CD (though they are currently required to play) and it will not update previously installed versions of the game.
Once you have 3.1 installed, the Free Release will be a small patch that removes the requirement to have the CD in your drive to play.
Once the free release is out, be sure to click UPDATE to patch-up to the latest version.
In the meantime, use MTX to download and install the 3.1 release so that you will be one step closer once the Free Release is out. If you already have 3.1 installed, I'd recommend checking out AT:1 which is also available through MTX. |
Dare we say it? Free release of Mechwarrior4 cleared for launch
Posted by Vam, Wednesday, 21 April 2010 19:48 Comments(0), Read all |
If you've been following the drama surrounding the free release of Mechwarrior4, than you would be aware that the initial announcement, made last summer, was a bit premature. After nearly a year since the announcement came, MekTek Studios is pleased to announce, that Microsoft Legal has given the all clear for the free release of Mechwarrior4. This hallmark movement by Microsoft Games couldn't come at a better time, as the Mechwarrior community is attempting a rebirth, amidst announcement of a Mechwarrior Reboot. Thank you Microsoft.
A few weeks ago we stuck our neck out and announced that our studio was struggling to see this release through to the end. We also released our MekPak 3.1, through our distribution and patching system MTX, which gave our developers an opportunity evaluate any unknown bugs. We're glad our announcement and release worked, and we have many to thank for raising awareness, as the release of Mechwarrior4 is now imminent.
Some of the people we'd like to thank, to name a few, are those reporting gaming news such as Joystiq, Bluesnews, BigDownload, Fragland, Gamespy, IGN, Shacknews, and Slashdot. We'd also like to thank all major gaming forums for keeping this topic in discussion and not letting people forget about the promise of a Mechwarrior free release. Of course, we'd like to thank our partners for pressing Microsoft to allow for the release of Mechwarrior to the community including Smith and Tinker, INC., Virtual World Entertainment, LLC., and Catalyst Game Labs. And finally we'd like to thank our community and the Mechwarrior fans for standing behind MekTek when things appeared to be at their worst. Thank you for your continued support. Please stay tuned for the release launch! |

Well it certainly looks like there is a few problems out there, I guess those of us that went through the pain in the butt installation of 302b into Win 7 64 bit have an advantage over the newbies. you might say that we have a certain expertize. most people with disks seem to have come through with a few if any minor problems. Those people with no torrent and or port forwarding experience are at a disadvantage, so we should be there to help them through it . Clan and faction forums are where they can usually get assistance on a more personal level. I am really surprised at the amount of problems people are having.
Have a good day Hardway |

First, sorry for the late welcome Hardway............. welcome m8
Yup, i reckon i got off lightly compared to you, i remember the horrors you had, multiple OS/game reinstalls, the sacrifice of a black goat to the dark lord router just to get your ports forwarded.......................................................... well the reinstalls are true .............................. the goat maybee
I must admit i was completely confused when i recently visited MeKtek to update 020 to 021 deciding which way to update........with extractor.....without extractor.......via torrent....... http....etc,etc and MTX seems to have gone totally fubar.
Edited to put: Outstanding Avatar, love it.

Hi Shrimp and all
Hows the back going M8 I hope its OK.
The avatar is from Fallout 4 or what will be Fallout 4, it sums up my frustration with the restrictions placed on me playing MW4 a few months back.
The port forwarding issue went away completely after I bypassed the router. I downloaded 0021 with u torrent but still did not get good speed, 250kbits sucks considering the download tests of u torrent gave me over 4 mbits to a locality near MekTek.
Cheers Hardway
