I just started up MekTek MTX and there is "Mechwarrior4:Mercenaries, 1791mb, available for install". I dont see any news release from mektek but im installing it now, dloading at 1.2mbps, I'll let you know if this is it :)
hmm looks like the latest mechpak is 1.7gb.... we'll see.
well, its MW4 alright, it luanched and failed with an error that said "please install mw4 mercenaries into the drive", no way around it. |

Yep, it still has the CD check in it, although they've ripped out all the protection.
The free version is one to two weeks off i think.
The next point release will be the HD version (supports more resolutions/ wide screen etc) and is due out this week sometime.

Well they reckon the free version will be a 60 Mb (ish) patch if you've already dl'd the game.
Should be out within the next 24 hours.

Well for my part i've just joined up with Mac and Ammon over at ~SJ~ (just had my toe and got blown up a few times)
I'm now playing on both the 3.02 and 3.1 servers when i can, if anyone wants to hook up just post and we can arrange a get together or something.
I'm open to suggestions.

Last year I was travelling away with work on a weekly basis, but this year I'm based in my home town and I generally visit this Forum everyday.
I'm quite often a silent reader... apart from the odd dumb joke (I really did like that Al Qaeda/Susan Boyle joke though, got the simple joke in an email and made more of it up as I went  ).

Hi Guys
8 AM GST Monday and that is when I finally got my free release redownloaded and working( had to install it over a working installation of the earlier 3.1 as MTX would not recognize the install) I also managed to stop 302b from working somehow, Its been a long long weekend, "sigh".
Ok Shrimp or anyone else for that matter I,m ready for a game just tell me where and when.

The MekTek site/server got completely overwhelmed and broke.Their host is working on fixing it.
To grab the latest patch, MTX needs to update itself first... unfortunately see above.
The 3.02b Master server has fallen over, no one has been able to connect.
The site is down but anyone wanting to access the forums - www.mektek.net/forums/ should work.
A quick quote from Vam explaining the situation :
Data is still coming but from our records we had 100,000+ unique visitors last night and approximately 10,000 downloads happening via torrent when our server infrastructure went down (software/hardware). In part to no blame on our awesome host, we had no idea, that this many people want MW4. I suppose free really is a powerful word. Given the poor reaction to our MTX client, in its defense, it is early beta, very dependent on web access to MekTek. Some of this has changed. The team has been very hard at work around the clock on a new build which has an offline mode and ability to apply *.mtx patches whether MekTek is online/offline/gone. For those trying to get around MTX and unpacking MTX files manually, we do caution, this will cause you grief because you can not install patches this way unless you hack support back into MTX for your game. One of the main reasons we released MTX was because this is such an old game and we have no way to get people updated should updates occur and they are planned. So yea, this is a growing pain, though an awesome one, we must admit!
A quick quote from Supermike for if your install went oopsie :
We are noticing an issue when people begin downloading via torrent and then switch to HTTP. This is causing the file core.mw4 to become corrupted.
Please DO NOT switch from Torrent to HTTP in the middle of the download.
An update to MTX will be issued shortly to prevent this from happening in the future.
If you are having problems joining servers or are getting kicked upon entering a game, you will need to download a good copy of the file core.mw4 here: http://mtxgear.mektek.net/mtx/fixes/mw4/0020/core.zip
Once downloaded, unzip the file, then replace the bad core.mw4 file, located in \Program Files\mektek.net\Mechwarrior Mercenaries - Mektek Mekpak\RESOURCE, with the new one.
Also, it is advisable to to delete your MTX temp folder located at \Program Files\mektek.net\MTX\temp

Hehheh i guess i was lucky and got the update within 1 - 2 hours of the patch going live.

Sorry if anyone was hoping to catch me online last night.
Put me back out checking my car tyre pressures.
Spent most of the evening at the local hospital, didnt really feel like doing anything apart from lying horizontal after that.
Feeling a bit better today, just hope it clicks back into place soon.
